二人の子供が同じ母親から同時に生まれることを指します。双子は、外見や性格が似ていることが多いですが、必ずしも同じではありません。双子には、一卵性双生児と二卵性双生児の2種類があります。一卵性双生児は、1つの受精卵が分裂して生まれるため、遺伝的に同一です。二卵性双生児は、2つの異なる受精卵から生まれるため、遺伝的には兄弟姉妹と同じです。
